The first thing you should probably do is put the song on the Audio/Music track. The second thing you should do is go to the menu bar at the top of the page, select ?Tools-Audio Levels? and slide the cursor over to Audio/Music. This will mute the audio from all the clips for the whole project. If you want to use dialogue in one of the clips it looks like you will have to manually mute each clip. You do this by placing the cursor over the audio clip, right click and select mute. I did not find a way to un-mute just one clip.

If you want to use a video transition, use the mouse to overlap the two clips by the amount you want, then just click and drag the transition into that grayed area. Just a note, it's probably best to minimize the number of different types of transitions you use. Numerous fancy transitions can distract viewers from the video and break up the flow. Try to limit it to a few different transitions at most.

If you want to use an effect, just click and drag it over the clip you want the effect applied to. When you add an effect a star will show up on the clip. There are about 30 different effects to choose from. If you want to apply the effect to just a small part of the clip you will have to split the clip. You can do that by first placing the cursor where you want to split it and hit ?ctrl-L? or you can go to ?Clip-Split? on the menu bar.

As this is a basic editing program, you don't get a lot of control over the effects and the ability to fade into one. Four that will probably be more useful are the Fade in and out of white and black.

Now if a clip is too long you have a couple options. IMO the easiest is to highlight the clip and place the cursor over the end. A window pops up telling you to ?Click and drag to trim the clip?. Or you can go to ?Clip? and there are two options to set start point and end point. In order for that to work you have to have the blue cursor over the point you want to start or end the video.

Adding in the Titles and Credits is pretty intuitive and they guide you step by step. Just select the option that suits your fancy.

Remember to save often as you work.
