"Smith and Jones" 3/31 episode spoilers

So how are we gonna do official discussion threads for the show at ITT? Can we get the ball rolling here?
Just watched "Smith and Jones." Fun fun fun FUN!!!! I'll go with jagwriter78 and comment first on the HAIR. It's kinda like bedhead in that it goes everywhere. It's not like bedhead in that it actually looks GOOD.
The blue suit looked better in motion than it does in the high quality stills. Poor "burgundy boots" though. How come no one's made mention of toes though? Not that I'm much of a toe person, but still, I figured I'd have heard something about 'em. Oh yeah. I was avoiding spoilers.
Ooookay, back to more serious talk about the episode itself. Great introduction to Martha, no? I like her!! Couple of medical nitpicks though. If you put in stethoscope earpieces in like Martha did, you won't hear a thing. They gotta angle forward.
And CPR is never portrayed accurately in film and TV. Though if it were, you'd have poor actors and actresses with broken ribs... There is one kinda neat thing that's totally UK. The head physician guy was referred to as Mr. Stoker... totally UK thing to call surgeons as "mister" isn't it? ... waitasec... STOKER... HAHAHA I just got that one.
I think I'll say more later after I've caught my breath.

You know what made me go
They are doing the recurring theme thing again this season!
Remember how in the first season, there was a mention about Bad Wolf in every episode? And in season 2, it was Torchwood. Word of the 3rd season: Saxon or Mr. Saxon for that matter
I was actually surprised to see the "Vote for Saxon" posters up already. But let's see if they stuck with the previous seasons in that there is going to be a mention one way or the other about Mr. Saxon in each episode.
And of course the hair!
If it was for me, he'd need NO hairstylist! Just have the hair stick in each and every direction and I'd be absolutely
Okay, what have I not mentioned yet. Right. The death of the screwdriver. When he pulled it out of the xray machine, I was NOOOOOO! It can't be dead! No way! The Doctor needs his screwdriver
I so felt with him when Martha rambled on and all he did was "my screwdriver!" and then he just threw it AWAY!
I think this was an absolutely great start for Martha. I felt a bit sorry for her in regards to her family. All she seemed to be to any of them was the go between to the rest of the family. She seemed to be the one who had to make it right for everyone and probably got lost herself somewhere in the middle. I am glad the Doctor is giving her a chance to escape that at least for a little. Oh, and I would very much like to
Martha's dad!

Sorry
But, you know, Mr. Saxon was mentioned in Runaway Bride already. And if it's of any help to you, that's just me and my guessing up there. I could be totally wrong. It just struck me when I heard yet another mentioned of Mr. Saxon (after he was mentioned in Runaway Bride) and then thought back how Bad Wolf and Torchwood made an appearance in every episode of the previous seasons. Like I said, I could be totally wrong about it and it's not Mr. Saxon. It's just that I remember that being mentioned in both episodes and having seen the Vote for Saxon posters at the preview party, so I assumed it must have been something important. But then I also thought the burgundy shoes and the blue suit were going to be important, and see where the shoes ended up! In the trash! Never to be seen again.....

Back to more on the episode itself. I liked that Martha has different family than Rose, complete with separated parents and two siblings. Adjoa Andoh plays the mother, but I also remember her as one of the actresses who played a cat nurse in "New Earth."
The dad definitely needs the

I was
too when the sonic screwdriver died. I liked the line of Ten "road testing" the new one with Martha.
The episode also has one of my favorite RTD scripts to date.
I like the dialog that Martha has with her family, and then at the hospital, and finally with the Doctor. Freema did those lines pretty darn good!

Hmmm...should I C/P my LJ article over here...it's really long.
Let me be the first to proclaim...Saxon is an alien! I don't know what kind yet, but I'm guess either Time Lord or evil or maybe both.
And no, this is not a spoiler, I'm just proclaiming it to be so. Watch me be completely wrong come the end and have him have nothing to do with the show at all.
Next...love the jimjams! Are they Howard's? That's what I'm trying to figure out. They certainly look like it. And in Britain, do they let you wear your own jimjams? It would certainly be nicer than the barebottom robes you get here!
It's late, I'll probably talk more about it later.

Maybe, since all the Tyler's are gone, he had gone back to their flat and taken them...a tribute to remember Rose...
HA! I wish!
They probably just used them 'cause they had 'em.

Did he ever even return Howard's jimjams? I don't remember him having them with him when he went to Christmas dinner after he changed! *grin*

WHAT! Not only did I spoil poor rho with the mention of Mr. Saxon, now Teska spoils ME with the fact that he is an alien! Yeah, payback is hell..... hehehehehe. We definitely need spoiler space even for our speculations
If it's of any help, I think he's an alien, too. Gotta be an alien. Otherwise it would be no fun *snicker*

Except the problem is, I think it's so obvious that he's an alien that maybe he's not...

Oh, he must be! He's an alien and a bad one at that, and he'll bring Rose back so that the Doctor will be distracted and he can get away, and then I'll love him even though he's a bad guy. Hmmm, projecting a bit too much?
In other aspects of the show...what do you all think of the Martha theme (in terms of music)? I knew it was the Martha theme right off when I heard the music begin to play with the two of them outside the TARDIS. I have to say, I don't really like it. It makes me want to cry, but I don't know why. The Rose theme, I loved. It was beautiful and was...Rose. Martha's makes me want to cry every time I hear it!
I don't know why it makes me sad.

I love it when they have that singer do the opera-ish/choir-like thing for the music in this show. For the Doctor's theme, for that song in Doomsday, and now Martha's theme. I actually really love it, but I think it makes you (and me) want to cry because it reminds us of that Doomsday song, and that type of singing is also full of mystery and longing, so in a way it's a bit sad. It captures loneliness and darkness, but at the same time mystery and adventure and excitement. And because it's a new theme and no more Rose.
Am I making any sense?

That's a good point, HRS. Normally, I love the opera-ish singing. I loved Rose's theme, I even loved the wall music (though that does make me want to cry too), but...I dunno, there is still something about Martha's theme that is just sad. I guess I'll need to wait to hear the theme in other forms to see if it's just the singing or the theme itself.
