I'm
gonna just warn you all right now--I got some major big time SQUEE this
week. Most if it is shippy/angsty/heartachey Ten/Rose squee. Yeah, just
gonna let that out now. ;D
The beginning--I absolutely
adore it! The Doctor slips away from the group and turns on the radio! Sec demands to know just what this sound is!
Doctor: Ahhh, well, now, that would be me. Hello! Surprise! Boo! Excetraaahhh!
Tee hee! He's so cuuuuuuuuuuute! *snuggles Doctor*
Ah,
so each of the Daleks immediately recognize the Doctor. I guess that
answers our time frame question--definitely after Doomsday. Good, glad
we got that out of the way!
And dammit, he does that ear-tug
thing again. At that point I stopped hearing and my brain went ablank.
O_o He's just too adorable when he does that. It should be a crime, or
it should come with a warning at the beginning of the ep, like:
"WARNING!: Episode contains images of David Tennant pulling on his ear and running his hands through his hair. May be cause of injury." Seriously, coulda used that!
It
still amazes me the way the Doctor feels confident enough to simply
throw himself in front of three Daleks who could 'exterminate!' him on
the spot. I know he can't die since he's the main character and DT's
around for the rest of the season and season 4, but I got nervous
anyway! But this is one of the many things I love about Ten--just strut
on out, cheerily greet them, mock them, insult them, and totally get
away it. Tee hee! He so rocks.
I really liked the Doctor asking
Sec what he feels, what he's thinking--he must be eager to know, what
this new half human Dalek has going on inside. And you can just see the
spark of hope and excitement he has when Sec says he feels humanity,
and the Doctor replies enthusiastically how good that is. But then, as
Sec goes into detail, twisted detail, you see the disappointment
contort the Doctor's face and he tries to correct Sec's view on what
'humanity' means. But no, that doesn't work. So what does he do next?
Turn to the radio, of course!
Dalek: What is the purpose of that device?
Doctor: Well, exactly! It's plays music! What's the point of that? Oh, with music you can...dance to it, sing with it...fall in love to it.
Sighhhhhhhhh. I'm going to take just a wee second here to begin my shippy squees. That line made me think of
The Doctor Dances!
And besides the way he said it was just plain downright sexy. And I
liked that he leaned in close to the Dalek's eye and we get the Dalek's
view on that bit--a bit of emphasis, no? =D
I was really wondering
how
the Doctor was going to get out of this one, especially after he just
threw himself out in the open. Of course, I should've known the sonic
screwdriver would've come to play a part. ;D But oh, that was just
brilliant. I just loved the whole bit with the loud irritating grating
sound that just made the Daleks cringe. Sec recoils in phsycial pain,
and the other three surround him in panic repeating to protect him.
Protect, protect, protect! Hee, silly little tin cans. =D
One
little minor detail I just laughed at and loved is when the group is
racing back through the tunnels, and nobody knows the way but the
Doctor! LOL! Yes, I'd hope after 900+ years he'd have a good sense of
direction, and with a genuis mind that he'd remember exactly where to
go. Just a little point but I liked it and it made me smile. =D
Two
Daleks have a bit of heart-to-heart. They have doubts on the new half
human Sec. Can't blame them, and can't say I'm surprised. Nope, not at
all. And we all know that this means something bad, oh yes.
The
attack on Hooverville actually left me very chilled. It was totally
like sticks and stones verses machine guns and nuclear bombs. Even just
one Dalek could've wiped out that entire place in a manner of minutes.
MINUTES. What really hit me the most was the way the Doctor was
whirling around, watching in horror, absolutely
defenseless. There was
nothing he could do but sit and watch and wait for something to happen, wait for it to be over. And we all know how he
hates it when he can't do anything--especially when it comes to the Daleks. That was just a powerful moment for me.
Sol,
well, I can't say I blame him for trying to reason with the Daleks, he
doesn't know any better. But I knew from the moment he started talking
he'd be exterminated on the spot. I'm actually surprised that Dalek let
him talk as long as he did. I knew why Sec was listening, that was
obvious, but the actual Dalek facing Sol, I thought for sure he'd shoot
a lot sooner. Still, it did in the end, and I was glad, because if it
hadn't, that would've been...unrealistic and out of character for a
Dalek.
Once Solomon is killed, the Doctor snaps, stepping out, declaring it's his turn.
This
was one of the most powerful parts of the episode for me. It really
punched me in the stomach on more than one level. It was just
incredible, and DT did such a brilliant job with it.
Doctor: Alright, so it's my turn! Then KILL me! KILL ME if it'll STOP you attacking these people!
Dalek: I will be the destroyer of our greatest enemy!
Doctor: Then do it! DO IT! Just DO IT! DO IT!
Wow.
I mean...wow. We've seen the Doctor at his breaking point, we've seen
him burn with absolute abhorence and disgust at twisted and malignant
injustices, we've seen him sacrifice himself for the good of complete
strangers on more than one occasion. He's done completely daft things
before, but usually it's backed by some sort of plan, some instinct or
some sort of tactic that we can recognize even if we don't know what's
going to happen. But this? This was completely different, off the wall,
fueled by raw anger and emotional pain. I don't know about the rest of
you, but had he not lost Rose, had she been the one standing behind him
rather than Martha, I don't believe for one second that he would have
thrown himself in front of that Dalek and demanded at the top of his
lungs for it to kill him. I'm not saying his outburst was 100% a result
of emotional damage and pain from losing Rose, because clearly he was
enraged by the Daleks all together: being alive, turning people into
pig-slaves, and now brutally slaughtering others right in front of him.
But I was genuniely blown over by this, it just felt so...
raw.
I just can't see him demanding in enraged screams with flailing
gestures for the Dalek to kill him, when he KNOWS it was going to. I
don't think he was counting on Sec stopping it--he was clearly confused
what was going on when the Dalek didn't shoot, and when he met face to
face with Sec later he's shocked at what Sec has to say regarding Sol's
death and the attack on Hooverville. So yeah, I have to say I saw some
immense raw pain behind his behavior here. Man, he's got it
bad. It really tore my heart out, this scene. Just...whoa. O_o
Martha
not wanting the Doctor to leave, or to go without her, was very
touching...and it made me think of Rose. She would've done the same,
demanding to go with him, and I don't think he would've let Rose come
with him anymore than he did Martha. It's more dangerous around the
Daleks than in Hooverville--he would've told her to stay. But anyway,
back to Martha, I do really like her complete dedication to him
already. And when he turned around with more to say, I actually thought
he was going to say something genuine LOL! I knew something was off
with that hand clasp and wink! Oh sly one he is. =D I just love that he
left the psychic paper with her. Too cool! Although like Martha I was a
bit confused what she was supposed to do with it--but then I figured it
out a lot faster than her that she was to go to the Empire State
Building! Mwahaha that made me feel smart. =D
Somehow I just
knew Sec was going to start having conflicting ideas and feelings now
that he's half human. He doesn't sound Dalek at all, and this is a bit
shocking to the Doctor of course. It sort of made me think of
Dalek
in season 1 when Nine absolutely refused to believe Rose when she told
him that Dalek was different, that it was realizing things, having
emotions. Here, we see a flip side--he's shocked, but a bit more
willing to believe it. Then again, this may have something to do with
the fact that he knows Sec is half human. ;D
If anyone saw my post before about the Sexy Neck Freckle, this was one of those times.
Ohhhhhhhhhhh that goopey thing that the Doctor found in DIM was a Dalek
embryo! Oooooookay. Cool. Interesting. Well, that answers my question before on what the dilla-dong that thing was. =D
Sorry, another SNF part. *Sighs and melts*
Oh,
what were they talking about? Oh right, the grand plan. Gotcha. *shakes
head clear of SNF images and fantasies* Right, back on track!
I
giggled on the part when Sec gave the Doctor a compliment on his
intelligence and the Doctor's eyebrow quirks and he gets a little
surprised smile. Hee!
Doctor: I still dunno what you need me for.
Sec: You're a genius.
And
yet again Sec shocks the Doctor with talk of returning emotions and
heart to the Dalek race, and that their original creator was wrong.
Whoaaaaaaaaaaaaa you can see the surprise on the Doctor's face alright!
Haha I'm loving it!
I sort of had a bad vibe off Martha telling
Frank and Tallulah about the psychic paper, but I guess my worry was
for naught, since nothing came of it. =p Ah well, moving on!
I
didn't believe through all this at all that the other Daleks were going
to let Sec do what he has planned, to make such drastic changes to
their race that he himself would have once considered foul and
disgusting. The Doctor doesn't quite believe it either.
Doctor: Hold on a minute, though, there's no way this lot is gonna let you do it!
I
didn't believe it even after the Daleks stated they would follow Sec,
that they must follow his orders and obey. I'm a bit surprised that the
Doctor even allowed himself to believe just a sliver of that. The
Daleks are all about following orders and obeying superiors, but not if
those leaders are trying to change everything that makes a Dalek a
Dalek, as the Doctor put it earlier. No way. Nu uh.
*Giggles* He's so
adorable
with his specs and a steaming vial in his hand! So...scientific. LOL!
He's just too cute! I wanna grab him and squeeze him! Just look at him!
I was bummed when he told Laszlo he couldn't reverse the pig thing. Awwww!! *sniff* How sad...=[
Tallulah
and Martha have a bit more heart-to-heart conversation. And I actually
loved what Martha said in this bit--she's beginning to realize things,
and I'm very much proud of her for that. But I also do feel very badly
for her, it clearly hurts her as she says this.
Martha: He
had this...companion, a while back, this friend...and ever since then
he's been on his own. But you know, sometimes, I say something or do
something and he looks at me and I jus' sort of think...He's not seeing
me. He's just remembering.
Awwww! *hugs to Martha* I'm sorry, girl. But at least she's beginning to understand, yeah? I really liked that bit.
Didn't
I say that the Daleks weren't gonna let Sec get away with his plan?
Didn't I?? Looks like I was right. How clever of them to create a plan
of their own and wait for Sec and the Doctor to do all the work and
then jump in when they no longer needed them. Sec is taken hold by the
pig-slaves and Laszlo helps the Doctor escape via the elevator.
Okay,
now we need to talk about this Ten/Martha spin-hug thing. When I first
saw this in the previews I totally blew my top off, but now that I've
actually seen it...I'm not upset over it at all.
Martha: ..
and it's good to see you too, by the way.
Doctor: Ohhhhhhh come here!
Anyone
else think this was one of those moments Martha mentioned earlier, when
he's not seeing her, but remembering? I sort of got that vibe off this.
Or perhaps he's simply bubbling with the fact he got out of the Dalek's
grasp and she's safe and she's figured out what the Daleks put at the
top of the Empire State, and all that...But yeah I still think it was a
bit of slip for him 'cause he immediately drops her calls that a waste
of time.
Doctor: See? Never waste time on a hug!
Either
way I wasn't upset about it, it just didn't have that feeling like it
should be something for me to get upset over, you know? It didn't
feel...shippy. It was just cute, and so short! Haha.
The Doctor climbing up to the top of the ESB reminded me a bit of
The Idiot's Lantern. I dunno maybe it was just the rushed climb and his long coat billowing out behind him. =D
More
hardcore work for the sonic screwdriver! Geez it's really getting
worked in this season--and I'm loving it! Although I knew that he
wouldn't get those panels off in time, there was no way, with the
amount of time each bolt took to get off. And then that all just worse
anyway when he
dropped the
sonic screwdriver! At that point my hands were over my mouth and my
eyes were bulging and I was going "Oh crap oh crap oh crap oh crap!"
I think the Doctor was thinking the same.
In
complete desperation and frustration he yanks and pulls on the pannel
with everything he has, screaming out in complete despair. The pannel
doesn't budge.
Oh what's he gonna do, what's he gonna do? *bites nails*
Standing up, he looks at the spire. Now, just what is he planning? Knock it over? Block it with something?
Oh right, his body. That works! Good blockage. That'll soak it all up.
Wait a second...HIS BODY!?!?!?! O_O *screams in panic and grabs fluffy pillow*
NOOOOOOOOOOO Doctor WHAT are you DOING!?!?
The
lighting strikes and angry blue lines of searing electricity and power
rake over him, tearing out a gurgling scream of agony from his throat.
He convulses and jerks in anguish, hanging on as long as he possibly
can.
He's left unconscious, pale, sweaty, his arm hanging off the side of the building.
If
I didn't know that DT was on for the rest of the Season and Season 4, I
would've thought Ten was dead and would be regenerating any second now.
I mean, I know Time Lords have different superior body types than
humans but that was quite a jolt of electricution he took there.
Goodness, I was so scared!! (Lookit, you can see his SNF in that pic
hee hee!)
Martha rushes up to him, screaming his name, her voice
raw and trembling with fear and heartbreak. I don't blame her! He's
lying there as dead as a rock. Yikes!
Martha
found his sonic screwdriver on the way up! Yay! Thank goodness! I
thought it was lost and he would have to build another one all over
again. =D Good job, Martha.
With a little shake, he shifts and groans. YES! He's ALIVE!!! *jumps up and down and squeals with glee and relief*
I love the bit when the Doctor whirls around to Tallulah about to ask about the theater.
Doctor: We need some space, somewhere safe, somewhere out of the way...TALLULAH!!
Tallulah: That's me, three Ls and an H.
LOL! Too cute, I like her. =D
Oh
yeah, and we get to hear the Doctor declare "ALLONSY!" for once LOL!
Just like he wanted! =D ...too bad Rose wasn't around to appreciate
that. =[
These are just some adorable pics so I'm putting them here. =D
LOVE that tongue!! And that look of concentration, hee! I know I keep saying this but he really is just too cute! ^_^
Oh I just love how Martha refuses to let him order her around. You go girl!
Doctor: I'm telling you to go! Frank can take you back to Hooverville.
Martha: And I'm telling you I'm not going!
Doctor: Martha, that's an order!
Martha: Who are you, then? Some sort of Dalek?!
LOL!
Really Doctor, you are incredibly smart and you are the designated
driver, but you've simply got no right to order her around like that. I
wonder how this conversation would have gone had it been Rose--do you
think he would've told her it was an
order? Hehe.
Hee, more cuteness!! ^_^
Ah,
I knew Sec was gonna die. What a lame death too. What is he, an idiot?
Stand up in front of a Dalek to protect the Doctor, spewing out what is
to them trash? Brilliant move there, Sec. I thought you were smart. =p
Ah well, it was bound to happen eventually. And I just loved the Doctor
standing on top of the chairs! Hehe I wonder how many times it took DT
to do that without losing his balance.
Him telling the Daleks
to kill him this time is far far different from before. Now, he's got a
plan. Now, he has something to rely, despite how huge a risk it is.
Time Lord DNA got jumbled in with the genetic transfer, so the humans
may not, just may not, follow orders to shoot. And guess what? They
don't. YAY! And I just squee over that wink he does! *melts*
So
ya ya ya conflict explodes and people and Daleks are shooting
everywhere, lasers flying in every which direction, the two Daleks get
their heads blown off, and Dalek Con kills all the hybrids.
That
leaves us here with one kick ass scene, Dalek Con, the last of the
Dalek race, verses the Doctor, the last of the Time Lords.
Doctor: Now what?
Con: You will be exterminated!
Doctor: Yeah yeah yeah yeah just think about it, Dalek--what was your name?
Con: Dalek Con!
Doctor: Dalek Con. Your entire
species has been wiped out. And now the Cult of Skaro has been
eradicated. Leaving only you. Right now you're facing the only man in
the universe who might show you some compassion! 'Cause I've just seen one genocide, I won't cause another. Con, let me help you.
Some
very powerful dialogue there. And in this moment, I think I share the
Doctor's compassion. I can't possibly imagine being the
only one of your entire species left in all of the entire
universe.
Con has nothing to say as the Doctor speaks. You can just see the poor
creature panicking inside that metal shell, confused, alone...And the
Doctor knows, oh he
knows better than anyone what that's like. And it is something so terrible that he's willing to give Con a chance, he
wants to help the poor thing. You can hear it his voice, see it in his face.
But
of course Con doesn't want anything to do with the Doctor, nor does it
want any help. So it performs another emergency temporal shift,
vanishing right before the Doctor's eyes. Wonder where Con ended up
this time. =p
And YAY! Laszlo didn't die!! *does a dance*
Although it does suck he's stuck with a half-pig face, but oh well. And
I really love that Tallulah still loves him and keeps with him--it
shows she's not so shallow. How long that will last, who knows, but I
like to think she stays with him. =]
Which leads directly into a
little conversation between the Doctor and Martha that made my shipper
heart squee and angst at the same time.
Martha: Just proves it, I suppose. There's someone for everyone.
Doctor: ...
Maybe.
Ohhh! OHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *sniffs and blows nose into tissue, dabs at eyes, snuggles fluffy pillow*
And you can tell with the look on Martha's face, she knows what she just did. Ohhhh........=[
I
liked Martha telling him she knew what it meant to him that Con got
away. That was nice of her, and perhaps she really does understand, at
least a little, now that she knows about his history with the Daleks
and the Time War and all that. And we end the ep on a rather foreboding
note--we WILL see Con again someday. Oh yes.
Really, totally
LOVED this episode! I was squeeing and screaming and freaking out and
gawking and awwwing all over. Just jam-packed with loads of great
intense deep stuff. Much love for this ep!!!
